You probably waste a lot of your time and wish you could find something to remedy that. If you are then this post is made especially for you.
I have been there too and have lost an awfully great amount of time and the sad thing about time is, there is simply no going back. The real issue I realized was that, by the time I realized and regretted the time lost, It was already too late… “You don’t feel sorry you haven’t revised, you feel sorry when it is the eve of exam day and you realize you haven’t revised or worked the whole academic year!”
So I started looking for ways to help to be more self-aware of the time. This especially occurs I noticed when you are in front of your PC. You would switch it on for a projects, assignments and five minutes later would end up on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and YouTube instead.
Then during the time I was working on my dissertation, I got help from a friend. He introduced me to a practice for which I am very thankful today. He used a particular widget on his computer (Windows 7) that would announce him of each passing hour. This was very helpful I noticed when we used to work together, It would help keep us in check whenever we deviated from our goal and started wasting too much time.
I wanted to use the same method too but I had Windows 10 and there was no widget nor proper apps for it. Instead, I had to google and learn how to set my PC to speak the time using a 4 line command and the task scheduler. The following lines written on a notepad and set to execute on an hourly did the job for me.
Instead, I researched and learned how to set my PC to speak the time using a 4 line code and the task scheduler. The following lines written on a notepad and set to execute on an hourly did the job for me.
I later learned of a better way (which I am currently using). if you are not at ease with codes and the scheduler don’t worry, it does not matter. You simply need to download an extension for Chrome called ”
This one is handy if you are not at ease with codes and the scheduler. You simply need to download an extension for Chrome called “Voice Clock“. It is super easy to setup and can be adjusted remind you of the time on an hourly or half an hour interval.
Now, I should warn you. You might find it annoying at times but it is very helpful in the long run. It is a major contributing factor to why I am able to meet deadlines, stay on track and perform with consistency. There are times when I lose track of time, especially If I am taking a pause, writing or watching a movie and this annoying little application reminds me of how much time I am wasting and where I should focus my time and attention to.
If like me you are having a hard time keeping track of time, I recommend you to give voice clock a try. If you have any other handy trick that you know of, please do share.
